Ose Anenih, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and son of the late Chief Tony Anenih, one of the party’s founding fathers, has announced his resignation from the party, bringing an end to his long-standing association with the political platform.

In a letter dated August 18, 2025 and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Arue Ward 3 in Uromi, Edo State, Anenih explained that his decision followed deep personal reflection, noting that he now intends to focus on his family and other pressing responsibilities.

He said his resignation takes effect immediately and described the move as one taken after careful thought, while acknowledging his profound connection to the PDP and the role it has played in his political journey.

“This decision was not made lightly,” he wrote.

“From the very beginning, I have stood with the PDP through its triumphs and its trials, bound by a belief in the promise of Nigerian democracy and in the ideals that first drew me to the Umbrella.”

He expressed gratitude for the friendships, experiences, and opportunities to serve that had shaped both his political and personal journey within the PDP.

Anenih, however, explained that he is stepping away from partisan politics to devote more time to his family and other pressing commitments.

While announcing his exit from the party, he reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s progress, pledging to remain actively engaged in intellectual and civic discourse that promotes good governance and the welfare of citizens.

“At this point in my life, however, I must step back from the arena of partisan politics. My duty now lies first with my family and with other responsibilities that demand my full attention,” he said.

He, however, added that his commitment to Nigeria’s progress “remains unshaken”.

“I will continue to contribute to intellectual and civic conversations that seek to improve governance and, above all, the lives of the governed,” he said.

“Ideas, policy, and principled debate remain essential tools for shaping our nation's future, and I look forward to playing my part in that work.”

In his resignation letter, Anenih also conveyed appreciation to the PDP leadership and members for their support and camaraderie over the years.

He wished the party success in its future endeavors and expressed hope for a Nigeria that truly fulfills its potential for all citizens.

His departure comes at a time of heightened political activity in Edo State, as the PDP grapples with internal dynamics while preparing for upcoming electoral contests. Anenih’s exit is likely to spark conversations within the party about its direction and cohesion in the region.
