The Nigerian police have arrested Obonyilo Peter Enenche, popularly known as 'Enenche Enenche', in Abuja.
He was last seen on Thursday at the birthday celebration of Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader representing Benue South Senatorial District.
“Enenche Enenche has reportedly been arrested by the police in Abuja. He was last seen at Abba Moro’s birthday party,” a source confirmed.
Enenche Enenche is currently facing trial over allegations of cyberbullying and cyberstalking Dr. Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja.
Background
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Chief Magistrate Emmanuel A. Iyanna of the Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory ordered Enenche's surety to show cause why the bail bond should not be forfeited or why he should not be remanded in prison for the defendant’s failure to appear in court.
The order was issued on Thursday, June 26, 2025, during the resumed hearing of a criminal defamation suit filed by Dr. Paul Enenche against Enenche Enenche and a former Dunamis pastor, Abraham Daniel.
The application was brought before the court by the prosecution counsel, Chima Chukwu.
SaharaReporters gathered that Enenche Enenche is a kinsman of the senior pastor of the church, Paul Enenche.
The Inspector General of Police is prosecuting the case before the Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court based on allegations of criminal defamation levelled against the duo.
The defence counsel, Dr. S. M. Oyeghe, in his submission, objected to the application, arguing that the procedure adopted by the court offends the due process of law.
Oyeghe contended that the bail of the first defendant had already been revoked and a warrant for his arrest had been issued; it was the duty of the prosecution to account for his whereabouts, not that of the surety.
SaharaReporters learnt that despite the objection, Magistrate Iyanna ordered the surety to show cause why the bail bond should not be forfeited.
Thereafter, he adjourned the matter to July 29, 2025, for hearing, at which the complainants, Pastor Paul Enenche and Paul Adama, would be able to testify.
Before the court's order, the defendants had filed two separate petitions against Magistrate Iyanna, alleging abuse of power and judicial compromise to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory.
The defendants also filed a motion for the magistrate's recusal, citing his bias and affinity with the nominal complainant, Pastor Paul Enenche. However, the motion was refused, while the prosecution's motion for the revocation of the first defendant's bail was granted.
SaharaReporters previously reported that the prosecution, on March 21, filed a motion for the revocation of the bail of the 1st defendant (Peter Enenche). The police had accused him of granting press releases and writing petitions against the Magistrate for bias in the case.
However, at a sitting on May 28, Magistrate Iyanna revoked the bail of the 1st Defendant, Enenche Enenche, for violating the condition of his bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate Iyanna emphasised that the bail terms and conditions set out in the court’s order were binding and must be strictly complied with as prescribed.
He asserted that any order issued by a court of law, acting within the scope of its authority, must be obeyed and cannot be treated as inconsequential by any party involved.
"Hence, I must state that an order of Court made within the plentitude of power of the Court to make and which is clear, precise and direct must be obeyed and cannot be regarded as one made in vain by any of the parties and regrettably in such very strong and extremely offensive and intemperate language.
"Consequent, upon these, the application is here granted. It is the order of this Court revoking the bail of the 1st Defendant, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, for violating the condition of his bail," he had ruled.
Meanwhile, Enenche Enenche had raised concerns that the Magistrate was seeking the attention of his surety, despite having earlier revoked his bail.
A source familiar with the case told SaharaReporters on Thursday, June 26, “How do you ask for a surety when you have earlier revoked his bail? This issue is looking vindictive to me, like oppression."
