The Nigeria Police Force says it has taken custody of a suspect, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun, who was linked to the murder of an Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Funmilayo Lasisi, and her daughter, Sewa Lasisi, from the Ghanaian police authority.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
PUNCH Metro reported on Monday that Fejemirokun was arrested by the Eastern South Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service at his friend’s house, where he was hiding.
The Ghana Police had disclosed that following an intelligence report that the suspect had fled Nigeria and was hiding at the location, its operatives swooped on him and arrested him.
Reacting on Monday, Hundeyin disclosed that the suspect was taken into custody through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau, Abuja, following a multi-agency collaboration.
He added that the suspect would be arraigned in court, while extending the NPF’s condolences to the bereaved family.
“The suspect was handed over by the Ghana Police Service today in Accra, Ghana, following a coordinated multi-agency operation. Fejemirokun had fled Nigeria after the abduction and suspected murder of an FRSC officer and her young daughter in Osun State.
“The Ghana Police Service, acting on credible intelligence that the suspect was hiding within their jurisdiction, effected his arrest and immediately notified the Nigeria Police Force. Acting on this notification, Interpol NCB Abuja swiftly proceeded to Accra, where the handover was finalised.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, while commiserating with the family of the bereaved, has assured that the investigation would be thorough and brought to a logical conclusion, after which the suspect would be arraigned accordingly. He also commended the Ghana Police Service for its professionalism and cooperation,” Hundeyin stated.
He assured Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to the protection of the lives and property of every citizen.
