Facebook, the global social media platform owned by Meta, took centre stage at Lagos Fashion Week 2025, which ended last week, with its first-ever Facebook Lounge, an immersive experience designed to celebrate Nigerian creativity, connection, and community among young adults, designers, and fashion enthusiasts.
Held over three vibrant days, the Facebook Lounge became a hub of activity and inspiration, showcasing how young Nigerians are using the platform to explore their interests, express themselves, and turn creativity into opportunity.
The space brought together fashion lovers, digital creators, and cultural influencers to experience first-hand how Facebook’s suite of tools, including Marketplace, Reels, Groups, and Meta AI, empower users to build meaningful connections and grow their passions into careers.
Speaking about the initiative, Meta’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, Oluwasola Obagbemi, said, “Facebook is a leading place for conversations around cultural moments, not just here in Nigeria but across the globe. Events like Lagos Fashion Week highlight how our platform brings people together to celebrate creativity, culture, and community in real time.
“We’re inspired by how young adults in Nigeria are using Facebook tools like Marketplace, where fashion has become the largest category on Facebook Marketplace in Nigeria, along with Reels and Groups, to express themselves, build communities, and turn their passions into opportunities. We’ll continue to introduce features that help people explore their interests and connect more deeply with others.”
Throughout the three-day experience, the Lounge hosted live conversations and engaging social moments anchored by Mr Joseph Onaolapo (popularly known as Jay On-Air), a media presenter and content creator, and fashion creator Nonye Udeogu, known online as Thisthingcalledfashion. Together, they offered audiences an authentic glimpse into how creators are leveraging Facebook’s features to reach wider audiences and nurture digital communities.
The Facebook Lounge also attracted notable celebrities, influencers, and fashion professionals who gathered to unwind, network, and create content in a lively, tech-infused atmosphere. Guests enjoyed interactive photo sessions, Facebook-themed games, and a creative Reels Booth that captured the energy and style of Lagos Fashion Week.
For Meta, the event underscored Facebook’s growing commitment to supporting Africa’s creative economy by offering tools that help individuals build brands, share stories, and connect with global audiences. With fashion being one of the largest and most dynamic communities on Facebook in Nigeria, the company said it would continue to invest in features that inspire self-expression and digital entrepreneurship.
The success of the Lounge experience highlighted how technology and fashion are increasingly intertwined in shaping youth culture. From runway moments to digital storytelling, Facebook positioned itself not just as a platform for connection but as an enabler of opportunity for Nigeria’s next generation of creators.
“Facebook remains committed to empowering people to explore their interests, build community, and connect with the world in more meaningful ways,” Meta said in a statement following the event.
Lagos Fashion Week 2025 reaffirmed Nigeria’s status as a creative powerhouse and, with Facebook’s participation, also showcased how digital innovation continues to shape Africa’s cultural and fashion landscape.
