The African Action Congress (AAC), led by activist Omoyele Sowore, has dissolved its party executive committees in Rivers and Yobe states, replacing them with interim leadership teams ahead of planned state congresses.

In a letter dated August 14, 2025, and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sowore, the party’s National Chairman and Ina Okopi Agu, its National Secretary, notified the commission of the changes, stressing that the new interim executives have been mandated to restructure the party at the ward and local government levels in preparation for the congresses.

The letter, titled “Notification of Probationary Appointment of Interim Excos for Rivers and Yobe States”, was copied to INEC’s Director of Election and Party Monitoring (EPM) and police commissioners, Directors of the State Security Service (SSS), among others in Rivers and Yobe states.

The newly appointed Rivers State AAC interim executive will be chaired by Barr. Ms. Ivy West, with Dr. Rosebrey Ohia serving as Secretary and Ureh V. Ozah as Treasurer.

For Yobe State, Abubakar Jawa Musa has been named Chairman, with Fatima Aji as Secretary and Khadija Mu’azu Nguru as Treasurer. According to the statement, the decision was taken following the dissolution of the former state executives, which the party described as necessary to reposition the party for grassroots expansion and membership mobilisation ahead of congresses.

“The interim excos have the mandate to act for and on behalf of the party to set up interim structures for the party at the Local Government and Ward levels to ensure the success of our Party’s membership drive in preparation for the state congresses,” the letter stated.
