The National Assembly on Thursday passed the bill seeking to recognise June 12 as the new Democracy day.
The bill was approved in the Senate by an act of parliament after the lawmakers considered the bill seeking to amend the Public Holiday Act on Thursday.
It was gathered that the bill which is in concurrence with that of the House of Representative will be transferred to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent.
President Buhari had in the month of June declared June 12 as democracy day which will hold every year.
He made this declaration in honor of late Moshood Abiola, the presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election.
