Further evidence of the power-struggle between Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward came to light yesterday as it emerged that Anthony Martial could sign a new five-year deal at Manchester United.

Mourinho was willing to sell the French forward this summer after Martial’s agent said the player wanted to leave the club.

Martial was then fined by the club for returning late to pre-season training after attending the birth of his second child, Swan.

The 22-year-old has only scored once since January and was dropped from the Tottenham squad altogether but is set to be rewarded by the club’s hierarchy despite his questionable form over the last two years under the current United manager.

United’s nightmarish start has seen them concede seven goals in their first three league games for the first time in 49 years.

Anthony Martial is one of four players Ed Woodward will ‘never sell during his time at United’, according to reports.

The Telegraph suggest the France forward’s position at the club is safe and that the 22-year-old remains in the long-term interest of United.

Martial is joined on the four-man shortlist along with Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard who are also untouchables at the club.

Interestingly there is no mention of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku or David de Gea in the report.
