Football fans praise Liberia President Weah, 51, after playing 79 minutes against Eagles

Liberian President George Weah made a return to the pitch on Tuesday night, September 11, as he captained his nation against Nigeria in an international match.

The 51-year-old who retired from football fifteen years ago showed some superb skills against the Super Eagles as he played for 79 minutes before he was substituted. Although President George Weah failed to score against the Super Eagles as his nation lost 1-2 in front of their fans, but his presence on the pitch has received encomiums from football fans.

Meanwhile the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday night, September 11, defeated Liberia 2-1 in an international friendly match which was played to retire the number 14 jersey of President George Weah.

Henry Onyekuru who made a return to the Super Eagles scored the first goal in the 11th minute after a brilliant assist from John Ogu. Simeon Nwankwo netted the second goal for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 33rd minute as he gained from a superb corner kick played by Etebo.

Liberia scored their only goal in the 89th minute via a penalty through Palsama, but they could not score the needed goal that would have saved them from a defeat as Nigeria won the match 2-1.
