One Mr Clement Jacob of Deidei village has being arrested by operatives at the Kuje Medium Security Prison in Abuja.
It was gathered that the suspect attempted to smuggle Indian hemp to a prison inmate, Emeka Onyejikachi who was in prison for a case of possession of hard drugs.
It was learnt that the suspect had hid the drugs in his sandals while visiting and exchanged it with the inmate.
Unluckily for Jacob, Inspector Hussain Ibrahim, the officer in charge was smart enough to notice the exchange of footwear and asked for another search after the visiting was over.
It was gathered that the inspector tore open the foot of the sandals and saw the drugs.
During the interrogation, Jacob pretended to be ignorant of the transaction, saying that he visited Mr Emeka based on his wife’s request that he should pay him a visit.
He was also instructed to exchange his footwear with the inmate before leaving the premises.
According to the statement released, “The Controller of Prisons FCT command, Mustapha Illyasu Atta commended the alertness of the officer and further wish to remind members of the public and family members of inmates of their responsibility in ensuring that the inmates are properly reformed and rehabilitated.
“The Controller of Prisons pledged the commitment of the officers and men of the Command to rid Prisons in the command of illicit transactions that are capable of compromising security and discipline in the Service”, the statement added.
