President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the National Assembly to confirm the appointment of acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

According to Channels Television, President Buhari had forwarded two letters to the senate on Wednesday, asking for the confirmation of Muhammad and the approval for the appointment of 15 special advisers.

It was gathered that the National Judicial Council (NJC) had asked the president to appoint Hon. Dr. Justice Tanko Muhammad, as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria after their emergency meeting on Wednesday.

The NJC also recommended the appointment of eight other persons as Heads of Court.

The NJC said it considered and approved the recommendation of its Interview Committee that screened the two candidates presented by the Federal Judicial Service Commission to it for appointment as Chief Justice of Nigeria after their meeting which was presided by Hon. Mr. Justice Umaru Abdullahi, CON.
