It’s not surprising that most people looking mentally deranged are not really what they pretend to be.

A supposedly mad man who walks around with a phone at Isikan area in Akure, Ondo State, was on Monday arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officials.

The NSCDC had disclosed that the man identified as Dele who was arrested for alleged kidnapping, had received a credit alert of N1.5 million on his mobile phone.

According to a source, the resident had rounded up the man and handed him over to the officers of NSCDC who immediately swerved into action and handed him to the Corp’s Quick Response Squad (QRS) for immediate arrest.

This was confirmed by the commandant of the NSCDC in Ondo State, Pedro Awili.

The culprit was paraded along side other criminals before the journalists at the command’s Alagbaka office.

“The QRS team of the Command on October 15 arrested one Dele who was pretending as a madman at Isikan area of Akure with Itel phone,” he said.

“When our men arrested him and checked his mobile phone after some few seconds, he got a payment alert of N1.5 million into his account.

“Immediately the alert entered, he forcefully collected the mobile phone and smashed it on the floor. We went to repair the mobile phone to know and ascertain the person that sent the money to him and the persons he is working for.”

According to Sahara Reporters, the Ondo NSCDC boss disclosed that the arrested culprit belongs to a gang of serial kidnap syndicate terrorizing people and innocent residents of the state.

He urged the public to be at alert and ready to notify the police of any suspicious movements or information that can lead to the arrest of other criminal elements in the state.
