Justice Lekan Ogunmoye of Ado-Ekiti high court on Wednesday, sentenced 22-year-old Alonge Ajayi to death by hanging for armed robbery.

The convict who was found guilty was arraigned on February 27, 2018 and said to have robbed with guns on October 30, 2017.

According to Vanguard news, the Prosecutor, Insp. Folashade Abe said that Ajayi and two others engaged in a gun battle with police officers during which the other two robbers were killed and the convict was arrested with his motorcycle.

It was also gathered that the convict and his accomplice had robbed one Mr Henry Afolayan and his family members as they were returning from church service and collected their phones, N100,000 and other valuables.

The prosecutor called four witnesses who provided items recovered from the convict which includes; two guns, five live cartridges, phones and one Bajaj motorcycle as well as a statement from Ajayi.

Further reports said Mr Kayode Oyeyemi who represented the convict could not produce any witness to defend him during the hearing.
