The incident reportedly occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Monday, shortly after Omoyele closed from duty at the Amotekun Corps Headquarters in Osogbo.

Masked gunmen unleashed a coordinated attack on the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele.

The incident reportedly occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Monday, shortly after Omoyele closed from duty at the Amotekun Corps Headquarters in Osogbo.

He was driving alone along Ikirun Road, near Kobo, beside Charity Hotel, when masked men opened fire on his vehicle.

Recounting the ordeal from his hospital bed, Omoyele said, “I had left the office driving home with my two-door vehicle. When I got to Kobo, some armed men suddenly in a moving vehicle double side by side with my car and started firing.

“Their faces were covered, and before I could react, they opened fire on my vehicle. Bullets riddled the car. I didn’t stop. I kept driving through the hail of gunfire. I was hit, but I managed to escape.”

According to a statement by the Amotekun Corps on its website, medical sources confirmed that Omoyele sustained gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital under tight security.

His condition was described as stable, though he remains under close observation.

In a follow-up to the ambush, about 15 masked men reportedly invaded Omoyele’s private residence later that same night. Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, further deepening suspicions of a coordinated, premeditated plot.

SaharaReporters reached out to the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojolabi, for confirmation of the development, but he neither answered calls nor responded to messages sent to his official line.

Osun State government spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the attack.

"We can confirm the attack on the Osun Amotekun Commander. The Commissioner for Information has gone to visit him at the hospital," Olawale told SaharaReporters.

Last weekend, SaharaReporters reported that the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ordered a full-scale investigation into the killings in Akinlalu involving operatives of the Amotekun security outfit.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Rasheed, the governor expressed deep shock over the deaths of some individuals from the town after receiving a preliminary report from his Special Adviser on Security Matters.

He commiserated with the families of the victims, praying for divine comfort for those who lost loved ones in the tragic incident.

Governor Adeleke has also "vowed to dig into the root of the fatal encounter between the people of the town and the Amotekun security service, directing that a high-powered delegation of government and service chiefs will visit the affected town after the scheduled state security council meeting on Monday."
